AV Cables

So here is my problemo:

We got a DVD Player for Christmas, and the AV cable to plug into our HDTV was too short so I am going to buy new cables for it.

Now, the DVD Player is a Progressive Sony one. What cables would you recommend for it? It has a composite output.

I want the best picture quality. Thanks in advance.

if you have a HDTV it should have either a HDMI, DVI, or component input. those three inputs will be loads better than svideo or composite. you should check the inputs on the TV and the outputs on the DVD and find the best ones you can match up.

also, most people here would recommend you stay away from monster cables. they are waaay overpriced for what they are. For instance, a HDMI cable would be like $80 from monster and $8 from www.monoprice.com.

for the video portion, you'd want component video (or DVI/HDMI if your player has these outputs)

for audio, you'd want digital coaxial cable to connect your dvd player to the receiver. if not digital coaxial, try digital fiber optic (toslink)

Did you mean component output? That would be the best analog connection, however composite would be the worst. DVI or HDMI would be the best choices, as they are digital connections. You must make sure both your tv & player supports them though.

Despite what others may say, IMO Stay away from cables from MonoPrice.com

I've now how two issues with them in a year...

#1. They sent the wrong cable and not only wanted me to pay return shipping on the wrong cable, BUT wanted to charge me again to ship the correct cable.
#2. My HDMI cable i ordered from them went bad last month. Didn't know they could, but tried multiple HDMI devices and multiple HDMI inputs on the tv, major color problems. Replaced the cable and the issues went away.
