Auzentech X-fi Forte

I have a strange problem with an Auzentech X-fi forte card (PCI-e).

After I restart the computer (e.g. after installing new software, drivers etc.) I get crackling sounds when loading games (Demigod is my test case but there are others). If I shutdown the computer and then power up, there is no problem.

I am using the latest version 1.1 drivers for the Forte but it occurred on the previous driver version also.

Other specs (nothing oveclocked):

e8400
EVGA 790i ultra sli
Vista 32
GTX 280 sli
4 GB DDR3 Patriot

Any suggestions for what might be causing this problem to occur only on restart?

Try updating your motherboard's BIOS. Nforce boards usually have lots of issues with x-fi based soundcards. Also try running with SLI disabled.
