Is there any reason why my Auzentech Prelude sound card would stop working after I installed an 8800GT? The Prelude shows up in Device manager, and the drivers are installed correctly, but it says that the device cannot be initialized (Code 37). The ONLY thing I have done this morning is switch an 8800GTS for an 8800GT. Nothing else in my machine was touched.

Here is a list of the things I have tried:

Switching PCI slots

Completely uninstalling and reinstalling drivers

I have even tried putting the 8800GTS back in, only to have the sound card refuse to work

I am using Vista Ultimate 32-bit, if that helps.

If anyone can hazard a guess, I'm willing to listen.

Yup, I'm not surprised. Flame away vista lovers.

Actually, having had been a beta tester for 6 months prior to Vista's release, I haven't had ANY hardware problems until now, and up until I changed my video card, it was working flawlessly.

This is a known bug in the drivers of the Auzentech Prelude. It is called the "time bomb bug" and Auzentech has released a fix for it two months ago. Download the patch from here:

Ahhhh... much obliged, sir. The sad part is that I had downloaded the patch when it came out, but was waiting until I started using Vista 64-bit in about a week. I never knew about the "time bomb" problem.

Thanks again!
