Autopatcher crashes my system

Hi,
I tried downloading and running the ausust 2005 autopatcher file, but upon running it, it freezes at 12% the first time and then hangs my system(only mouse/kb and alt-tab works, system is otherwise unresponsive). I rebooted and tried again, this time assigning autopatcher's priority to low so it doesn't freeze the system, but this time it freezes at 3%, and eventually freezes the system too even after I ended the processes with task manager and tried to end and restart explorer.

Does anyone know why it's freezing my system?

This sounds like a piece of junk software to me.

How much investigation have you done before attempting to use this software ?

From what little I read about it, it sounds like a come-on to me.

I don't think anyone outside of the designers and writers of your O/S are going to be able to update your system properly !!!!

I've never used autopatcher and am not familier with the developers of this software so I would be very wary before trusting it. Besides the WAU client does a very good job so why replace a good thing?

Well I've heard good things about autopatcher which is why I've decided to give it a try. Besides, I use Firefox and I try not to use IE at all, and IE is required for WindowsUpdate. Personal pet peeve I guess.

IE is not required for the Windows automatic update client.

Also if you really wanted to avoid the update client (which I recommend you use) you could download the patches with Firefox and install on your own.

I've used the July 05 Auto-Patcher on at least five computers so far. After you run that version on XP SP2, there are only about eight security patches to download....about 4mb. It certainly makes a clean install easy on SP2.

These are mostly MS programs in Auto-Patcher.....so there shouldn't be much trouble.

Goi......if you noticed, I said that I used the July Auto-Patcher without any problems. Can't comment about later versions.

Trying to download each patch/fix separately, and then keep track of what each actually does........is a big hassle. Auto patcher is easy to use, much like a service pack, but maybe better because you can customize the install.
