Tonight I bring you a racing question:

Which famous Funny Car racer had his winning NHRA car banned? Why and when.

Don't remember who or when, but it was the Topless Funny car.
No.

I would put a year in but that would give away the answer.
There was a banning prior to the late 60's?
Funny Car started in the mid 60's out of the A/FX racing class.

I am sure cars were banned then too. This is newer. Think 80's.

Kenny Bernstein had one of his cars outlawed back in the 80's. Had all kinds of ground effects stuff.
Ding! Ding!

That's him.

But not why. Do you know any details?

I remember it had some crazy wind tunnel testing, they called it hollow body ground effects or something like that, but I don't remember exactly what it was about that body that caused the NHRA to outlaw it. I know KB won the title that year and pretty much spanked everyone....but he usually did that anyway back then.

Yeah, he was good at that.

He switched from Ford to Buick for the body. A LeSabre that was super aerodynamic. It was totally legal (he did push the limits though) and had so little drag he actually needed less power to push that thing down the track.

Edit: 0-60 mph in .4 secs. OMFG!
