Automotive question: Can you remove pinstripes from a black truck?

Hi there. I have a question about a truck I am considering buying.

I was hoping someone here knew about automotive, pinstripes, paint etc.

I am considering buying a Black Chevrolet truck. The truck has a blue pinstripe all the way around it. (I think the pinstripe was factory installed but I am not sure about that).

I would want to remove this pinstripe if it wont hurt the paint at all. Meaning that it's black if removing the pinstripes left any blemishes or wear at all it wouldn't be worth it because it would stick out. And I would probably just leave them on.

The truck is here.

So can I safely remove these blue pinstripes?

Thanks in advance for the help. :)

The pinstripes can likely be removed safely; however the worry I would have is that, depending on how long those stripes have been there... the paint underneath can be darker than the surrounding paint due to it never having been exposed to the sun. If the truck was well cared for, any difference would probably be negligible. Maybe it would be anyway... but off the top of my head that's all I can think of.

use a hair dryer to warm it up a bit. That will soften the glue; you will be able to remove them without harming the paint. Afterwards, use some minerals spirits to remove the remaining glue.

What he said!
Concerning the possible difference in shades of color underneath the stripes, you may be able to blend them in with some rubbing compound, followed by polishing compound. Just "feather" it out till the shades flow together.

Hey great! Now you don't have to worry about pinstripes!

Dealers put pinstripes on vehicles as a type of branding for the dealership. When the vehicles get traded to another lot they come off easy enough. Like giantpinkbunnyhead said though the paint difference is something to consider if its an older vehicle.
