Automatically & silently backup running hard drive on USB drive?

I am trying to find a way to generate an image (or something) of a hard-drive (C:\ drive) while it is running / in-use (without interruptions) on a PC automatically & silently when I connect my USB drive (or with as little intervention as possible) - the installing is Windows XP (in case that makes a difference).

Long story short, there are PCs with no keyboard, mouse, or monitors and I need to make images of them - so simply connecting my USB HDD and having something automatically kick-off would be the ideal goal.

Anyone have anything to recommend?
Thanks,

Windows Home Server will back them up every night with no user intervention.

As pcgeek11 stated, Windows Home Server will do what you want and do it all automatically.

On the existing XP machines, just RPD in, install the WHS client and set up your backup schedule.
