Automatically running a batch file/script after a windows event?

I have a consumer level UPS (APC ES550G) on a Windows XP x64 machine. The included software doesn't have an option to run a script or anything when a power failure occurs. Is there a way to monitor the event log for the power loss events and then run a script/batch file based on that? Or is there a piece of software that does it.

I'm aware of an open source alternative implementation of UPS controller software but it seems kind of overkill and complicated when I only really need this one feature.
