automatic warning of pending drive space problems on Windows 2003 server

Our firm IT department let our local office's server run out of disk space this week.

NOT A GOOD THING.

My question is, is there a setting for a LAN 2003 Windows server that will report back to the firm IT administrator of impending lack of hard drive space on the LAN server's arrays ?

Unless my memory fools me, I seem to remember that that feature was available on the OLD Novell LAN server I used to administer many moons ago. Surely the great WIN 2003 has this capability.

Thanks.

Disc Quota Management is your friend?

To answer your question there are numerous 3rd party tools out there that can do reporting on that for you, google u cerebrus. As for built in tools, I have no idea; I highly doubt it.

This should never be an issue if proper practices are in place such as mentioned above.

I use two things:

1) SBS 2003 has automatic reporting of low disk space and will send email alerts. You'll likely want to change the default limit of 500 MB.

2) All Managed Services software (such as HoundDog) will monitor this and send email alerts.
