Automatic Vacuum/Sweepers that go by themselves.

Howdy,

Has anyone had any experience with these automatica vacuum things like this one from Hammacher Schlemmer? We are considering getting one for my wife's elderly parents but I don't know anyone that's actually used one of these before.

If anyone has any (or knows anyone that has) experience with these, I'd be interested in your feedback (Positive or Negative).

Thanks.

ive seen the roomba infomercial, it didnt seem very impressive, it would try to pickup stuff and just flick it away at times...never used one in person though..seems pretty pricey

I don't have one, but i saw one being demonstrated at the mall before. It wasn't very impressive. Hire a maid for an hour a week, they'll do a much better job, and do other cleaning as well (if they can't vacuum very well, they may need help in cleaning high places - or very low places).

I have a roomba pro with remote, I can chase the cat around. He's gotten to like it recently, it's his buddy.

These work great, they don't replace a regular vacuum but do a great job at in between cleanup.

Well I have cats but not my parents-in-law. But they could chace their grandson around I guess. heh.

I did find a bunch of reviews at epinions which state it's good for "light" cleaning and not a replacement for an actual vacuum. But since HS has free shippign now, I guess it doesn't hurt to buy and try and send it back if it doesn't work well.
