Automatic Downloading in Quake III

Hey guys,

Recently picked up Quake 3 (an oldie, but a goodie), and want to make sure the 'Automatic Downloading' option is safe to turn on. I've installed the latest point release.

Used it in UT for years, and now UT2k4. See no reason why Q3 would be any different. I have it, but don't remember that feature since UT kicked its ass

in theory it could be exploited, in practice it never is. enable it.

No exploits that I know of. I leave it off for other reasons though.

First the download speed is horrible, you can drop off the server, go find the map, download it and reconnect faster!

Second, when you download off a server it causes latency for the people already on...kinda rude.

Given there's been no update in years there's little point in enabling it.

It's not auto-update, it's auto-download of maps, models, and skins.
