Automated Button-Clicking

I have a program that I need to perform a certain task every ten minutes. The only way to make the program complete the task is to click a button in the program. Are there any free programs around that will simply click the button for me after a specified time interval? Will it work if the computer locks itself when the screensaver turns on? It would greatly benefit me if I could run this overnight, since these experiments take many hours to complete. Thanks!

I've long thought Windows should have a built-in macro recorder for general use, not just in Office.
