FWIW, this was on slashdot earlier today...

Free (downloadable) student edition of solidworks @ http://www.solidworks.com/sw/4644_ENU_HTML.htm

Free student edition of Autodesk products @ http://students7.autodesk.com/...assistance_home&lbon=1

From experience, I know Solidworks has some good built-in / online tutorials. If you're an engineering student, or just want to play around with either of these CAD packages this is a great deal.

(edit) I can't spell.

Moved from Hot Deals.

solidworks says it will email you a serial that is only good for 90 days? this would make this warm for the sw, just a semester or so :(

sad, as sw is an excellent program

90 days is plenty to learn the basics and get enough knowledge to list Solidworks on a Resume, if you are an engineer, or anybody who does 3d design, i would recommend trying it. Heck if you only know Pro-E or inventor, it's worth checking out Solidworks for 90 days to see what is different.

It never hurts to know more programs.

I will second the great built in tutorials.

Just FWIW
SW (09) and Autocad are both dead meat, now that Siemens bought out Solid Edge and made it into SE ST100 with PLM
They created a history-less browser system
Might wanna check out the 11 demonstartion vids at bottom of page
http://www.plm.automation.siem..._synchTech/index.shtml

And Catia V6 Live Shape module is unbelievable
How about dragging a radius around in real time in 6 axis
http://www.3ds.com/products/plm-v6/gallery/#vid1
Note in the above link there is an arrow to the right lower of "Browse through" window - you can go to next and next vid (there are 20) by using diamond arrows
Also note in the first vid of race car and especially watch the radius manipulation @ 1.33 min
