autoblog review the new Mitsubishi Lancer ES

It is handsome on the outside and I was intrigued when I first heard of it. But then I looked at the weight and the motor. 152HP at 3200lb? No thanks.

The cherry on top is the shit interior that Autoblog pointed out. Sealed the deal for me.

well, it shares the same platform with the Galant, so essentially it's a midsize sedan shrunken along with small motor. Speaking of which, it has rather dissappointing MPG too for a Japanese engine.

but, it has so much flaws that it makes me even want it more! 😉

Wait for the Lancer Ralliart - it'll have this year Evo's AWD system and last year's motor. If it's priced in the low $20K, it'll be a steal.

But will it outperform the Mazdaspeed 3?

In a straight line - yes. In the curves - yes. So yes.

wait, the new Lancer Ralliart with have Evo's AWD AND the turbo 2.0? or last year's Ralliart's 2.4L?

either way, last year Ralliart (with 2.4L and FWD) still ranked pretty well in one that I read. It hanged with the Subaru Impreza (2.5L NA) quite well in that particular review.

Rumors indicate this year's Evo AWD system and last year's Evo 2.0L turbo motor. If they can keep the weight down and give it a 6-speed manual, it'll be a winner.

dude, that's pretty much an Evo 9 in the new Lancer chassis then? if around 20k, that's a real REAL winner.

How the hell are they going to pull that off?

I call shens on that whole idea, why would they destroy their Evo sales?

Yep seeing as the Evo IX was faster in a straight line than the current Evo X, I think he is a little confused. The difference in engine power between Evo IX engine and the Evo X engine is nothing you should even be able to feel, especially in that heavier chassis. They would make it obviously compete with the base WRX and give it that kind of power NOT give it 290 some hp.

probably some sort of watered down variant of a turbo and not the exact same one in Evo IX... should make around 240bhp to compete with the regular WRX is my guess.

Yeah the other thing is that one of the reasons they went to the new motor in Evo X was for emissions - unless watering down the power of the old motor improves its emissions, they have that hurdle too.

Personally I think they'd be stupid to put in the Evo X's AWD system. I can understand the need to for economies of scale, since they theoretically no longer produce the IX's AWD system, but they need to make it better than the MS3/WRX - not 9/10 of what the Evo X is.
