Last time in options for my motherboard, I choose 'fast OC', (Overclock), and reached 4.4ghz from stock of 3.4ghz on this Intel i7-2600k CPU... what I have been running at since...

Well, in a risk-taking mood this morning, I guess...

Went into 'Auto-Tune' Overclock setting on this Asus P8P67-D motherboard...
I choose 'EXTREME' for OC this time...and then put on my jockstrap and cup... In the automated process, it ramps up the settings & then runs a stability test. If it passes, it then goes to the next higher OC and so on...

Went from the OC I had at 4.4ghz-36% OC,
first to 4.6(103x45)-36% OC,
to 4.73(103x46)-39% OC,
to 4.8ghz(103x47)-42% OC,
to 4.9ghz(103x48)-45% OC,
to 5.047ghz(103x49)- 48% OC...

OMG... Will play BC2 in a bit to see if it is stable...... OMG OMG OMG OMG....

My system...
Asus P8P67-D motherboard
Intel i7-2600k CPU (stock speed- 3.4ghz )
Antec-Kuhler 920 water-cooler
Corsair Vengeance memory 8GB
Intel x-25 SSD
Corsair HX850 Power Supply
AMD Sapphire 5870 vid card
Corsair 600T case
Cooling: 1 front 200mm fan 'in' | 1 top 200mm fan 'out' | 2 120mm fans 'out' from Kuhler CPU cooler

Ambient temp in Condo now 69F, and MB is at 87F at idle. Will obviously check temps right after I play Battlefield:Bad Company 2 in a little while... will check back here... film at 11...

Better check the Vcore. I suspect it's pretty high.

2nd this.

Funny how it defaults to 103fsb which should be ok. I'd be worried about the voltages it's feeding on auto at 5ghz. You should check before any stability testing.

You are lucky it stopped there.

I really don't know why Asus include this Auto-tune stuff with their motherboards. Next they'll be trying to auto-manage your OS & data disks - hmm, it seems they already do...

Why not learn to overclock manually? That way, you won't be reporting back in a week from a different computer, because this one fried from auto-overclock settings.

Edit: It's a really nice rig you've got, it would be a shame if anything happened. Def. check the vcore.

Just this sec finished playing BBC2 for @ 2 hours... temp was 111F, and Kuhler fans had gone up to 'medium' setting automatically. Resolution is 1920x1200 and 'high' in-game settings.

Held setting 'til just now... then high-temp warning w/ vcore @ 1.5, cpu temp at 55C. Backed off to 4.429ghz (103x43).

I'll be a good boy now...
