I have a 2001 Isuzu Trooper, it has a GM auto-tranny. 4E-something or other. The original tranny died. Was replaced under warranty. A few months later it started slipping from 2nd to first. I.E. you're accelerating from a stop. It shifts from 1 to 2, but then slips for a split-second back to 1st then bangs up to 2nd.

Any idea how much this fix should cost? Ballpark cost...

Selling the truck is not an option. It's paid for and other than the tranny it's in superb condition. Plus I love the stupid thing.

If it happened a couple months after being replaced should it still not be covered?

But hard to say. Maybe low $1000 to low $2000 range seems to be average. If money is tight look on craigslist for someone that works on the side. Buy the overhaul kit from rockauto or other Trans sites and go from there.

$152 for rebuild kit for your 4L30e trans

and the Band kit here for $54...

plus other smaller items...

So parts shoud run around $300 for a real good rebuild.

Maybe cheaper places I just used the first found as an example.

Heres another with the trans picture

Thanks very much, Marlin1975. It's an interesting situation. I was preparing to move overseas to work when the tranny started acting up. Literally two days before I was getting on the plane it started acting up. No time to get it looked at. 🙄 That was four years ago. The plan was always to put the truck on jackstands to await my return...so, the truck has been up on jackstands under the axles since then. I know, what a story, right? :awe: I put a bottle of stabilizer fluid in with the gas...but I wasn't expecting to be gone four years. Hoping for the best there.

I'm preparing to return stateside and need to get my truck fixed. I'm assuming any warranty I had is long gone...unless I want to hire a lawyer, blahblah...not going there. I will be time-constrained as well. I have to get my truck which is in one state and drive it to my next job on the other side of the country. Nothing easy in my life at all. So I won't have time to be trying to rebuild it myself...which I wouldn't be comfortable doing. I can do brake jobs and replace a clutch/alternator/water pump. But auto trannys are a diff monster. Thanks for your help!

can you dig up your replaced tranny paperwork?

maybe you'll be lucky and it'll say '5 years/50,000 mile warranty' or something

Good point, PottedMeat. Damn good point!!! That paperwork is in the storage unit w/the truck. I'll have to check it when I get there. Thanks!
