Auto-sync two networked computers

I have a desktop and a laptop on which I would like to keep my school/work files synced up. Clearly my laptop isn't always on the same network as my desktop.

I want some kind of software that will auto sync without me being involved at all. I also don't want messages saying it can't find the other computer when I'm away.

One computer is running XP Pro and the other is running Vista Ultimate.

What are my options?
