Internet Explorer has a VERY annoying problem that I'm amazed has never been addressed. The problem has somewhat been fixed in Windows Explorer for Vista, which I'm happy about, but It's still present in IE.
The problem is this. As I'm sure most of you already know, when using the "save target as" right click dialog in Internet Explorer, if a file with the same name already exists, you have a couple options. You can browse to a different folder, rename the file you are saving, move the existing files to another directory, or rename the existing file. If a file with the same name already exists, IE presents you with a Confirm Save As dialog box which says "filename.ext already exists. Do want to replace it?" There are two options avialibe within this box, Yes and No. This is where the problem is.
As I already mentioned, unlike previous versions of Windows, in Vista's Windows Explorer, if a file already exists you have the option to rename it as "filename(2), filename (3), etc." Why the hell cant this be available in Internet Explorer as well? How in God's name after all these years could this not be fixed? They FINALLY put it in Windows Explorer, but not in IE.
Yes, I know it's not a HUGE deal to choose a different folder, rename the file, blah, blah, blah, but it would be SO much easier to simply have a rename option like Vista's Windows Explorer. Anyone know of a download manager or other piece of software that would make this available in IE?
Also, please don't say anything such as how I should use Firefox because I don't like Firefox and don't plan on using it. Frankly, I don't even know if Firefox would be any sort of solution, I'm only saying that because it seems like whenever anyone complains about IE or even asks a question about IE, someone says "use Firefox....". If I wanted to use Firefox, then I would. I tried it a few times over the years and wasn't impressed. So please keep the Firefox comments to yourself. The whole "use Firefox, get a Mac, use Linux", "solutions" to computer issues aren't helpful folks. Not trying to be a dick, but something told me that if I ask an IE question someone would probably come back with the Firefox "solution".
Thanks.
