Download the free Auto-Patcher for XP and it allows you to install new MS stuff that requires validation to D/L from MS.

Just how does the Auto-Patcher prog get around that? I presume it's a completely legal program....

It directly downloads the file. Microsoft wasn't too smart when they didn't secure their actual download server.

I'm not sure I follow you......Autopatcher is a stand-alone prog you download. You then install it and upgrade XP or 2K with whatever patches/updates you want. You never deal directly with MS download servers.

The thing is available from a number of sources.....not MS.

Autopatcher rocks! :) The validation allows you to access the MS download area for the file. Once you have the file the validation is no longer needed. They are simply packaging all of the hotfixes and updates into one easy to use application.

Security fixes don't require validation anyway, and most of the other stuff either was included before validation was required or are just tweaks for the system.

I think if MS were really concerned then they'd soon get in touch with the authors, who have already stated that they will comply with any requirements from MS regarding validation.

Microsoft's MSUS (Software Update Server) "allows" you to do the same thing....

Yep. Rather than WSUS I should've written MSUS. Can't keep all the updates straight.

Yes. AutoPatcher XP just downloads and puts all of the patches and crap the MS releases into a easy-to-use program. They also include some nice extras that I love.
