Hi,

is there ways to edit the registry so that when i bootup windows xp home, it wouldn't need me to select the user? so it will just directly go to the desktop?

I know tweakui will do it but can i just mod the registry for this?

Thanks

If you're the only user, and you have no password set, it should work automatically.

Otherwise, add two values to hklm\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon.

The two values are "DefaultUserName" and "DefaultPassword"

The data you should enter in these values should be self-explanatory.

TweakUI also has a setting for this. It's a free MS Powertoy download.

I'm not the OP, but TweakUI stops working for me in this regard every time Windows calls home for updates. Will try what GreyMittens suggests. Thanks.

Yep start>run controluserpasswords2 click the username you want to auto login and uncheck the checkbox then enter the password twice, hit ok and voila.
