From the Auto Interiors Show

General Motors Nabs Best Interiors at Trade Show

The Auto Interiors Show Tuesday named the Cadillac CTS and Hummer H2 winners of the 2003 Car and Truck Interior of the Year Awards. CTS and Hummer H2 were chosen by a ?People?s Choice? format with online voting of five car and five truck finalists. Winners were selected on the basis of: Appearance ? styling, color, material, fit, and finish; Functionality ? comfort, convenience, and safety; Innovation ? surprise and delight factors; and Overall impression of the vehicle in motion and at rest. Ironically, GM product boss Bob Lutz singled out the CTS interior as being deficient when he signed on to makeover the automaker?s styling and product development two years ago. Motor press reviewers, too, often cited the car?s interior as the car?s weakest point. Both the CTS and H2 were cited by consumers as being desirable for use of wood trims and OnStar telematics. The CTS beat out finalists BMW Z4, Honda Accord Sedan, Infiniti G35, and Saab 9-3. The H2 bested Honda Element, Volvo XC90, Lincoln Aviator, and Nissan Murano.

It's good to see that GM's new high quality interiors are getting widespread recognition.

You're got to be sh!tting me...right???????

I know that you're a GM fan...but even YOU should know that the the H2's interior is a piece of sh!t.

Inside, editors noted GM's attempt to give the H2 a bold, masculine ensemble but wrote that the final product seemed like a rush job with various elements thrown in at the last minute. Low-quality materials certainly didn't help ? there was hard plastic in abundance, along with weak leather and vinyl trim and unconvincing faux metal where there should have been real stainless steel. "Nothing seemed worthy of such an expensive vehicle," one editor wrote in his evaluation. Build quality wasn't perfect, either; panel fits weren't all that tight and the shifter, one of the few stylish holdovers from the H2 concept truck's sharp interior, wiggled in its gate.

Whoever said this was the best truck/SUV interior is smoking crack. Especially compared to the Murano or FX45

CTS is "OK" but it doesn't outdo a G35 or Z4. The CTS's interior has been the SINGLE MOST criticized area of the car

I'd take those awards with a grain of salt as will 95% of the people that respond to this thread.

Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean everyone else don't like it. This is "People's Choice" for crying out loud.

You have your opinion, so do others. Apparently more people like it than not.

LMAO!!

http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/comparison/articles/73569/page001.html

The angular school of design was employed for the cabin as well, seen mostly in the door panels and the steering wheel. The center stack is angled toward the driver, a nice touch, but its bulbous form clashes with the rest of the dash. Interior materials, although not exactly cheap, paled in comparison to those of the A4 and 330i. On the bright side, most of the controls (including those on the steering wheel) are large and intuitive. The stereo display featured call-outs for each preset, a good idea although the station numbers are on the small side.

If there's any one area that really holds this car back it would have to be the interior. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. The design isn't anything to write home about and the materials could use some help as well. Why Cadillac missed the mark so badly on this one is beyond me, but until it makes some major improvements in this area, the CTS will be forever resting at the back of the pack.

However its subpar build quality and interior materials left me cold and seeking more capable sedans. I don't think it was Cadillac's intent to be the Charlie Brown of the automotive world, but once again it's had the ball snatched out from under it.

Let's just go ahead and call BULLSH!T on these awards :D

LMAO again. Shantanu, did you even read your own quote?

LOL, it was an "online" vote so they probably have never even sat in the vehicles.:p

Of all the vehicles listed, the only ones I haven't personally been are the XC90 and 9-3.

That was two years ago (mid 2001). The CTS came out in Jan 2002. Certainly, the CTS interior might have been deficient (I didn't see the prototypes). But it seems like ol' Lutz worked his last-minute magic on it. And now the production CTS is winning awards

Have fun cruising in your Camry. Bwahhahahaha.

Ohhhhhh, your spin isn't going to work. Lutz was too late to save the CTS. The interior is crap...just look at EVERY review of the car. You can't deny it GM breath! :p

Haven't been in a CTS, but I'm stunned the H2 could win ANY award for its interior. I've been in a few, and the interior does not compare to those of the Murano, XC90, or even the Aviator, especially given the high price of the H2. Hell, I would have voted for the Element over the H2, at least the Element's interior is innovative.

People based their votes on wood trim and OnStar? WTF?

I just noticed that it was an online pool. Anyone else remember when Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf was in the lead for the Time Magazine Man of the Year online poll?
