So I've read around a bit on auto insurance, but I still haven't found the cold hard facts I'm looking for. I've got a few questions.
1) How much is auto insurance for teens? I've heard $600 every 6 months, I've heard $1600 monthly, and I don't know who to believe. What's a general range? I'd probably get a good student discount, so that can be factored in as well.
2) If I drove my parents' cars alone with their permission (probably not gonna happen), would it be required for me to be registered under their insurance plan? What would be the consequences of me not being insured and driving their car?
3) When they say a driving course can reduce your auto insurance costs, does this mean Drivers Ed? I've already taken and passed Drivers Ed, which is required to get a license. Completion of a state-approved behind the wheel program (equivalent to a commercial driving school/road and range at HS) is also required for teens to get a license, which I'm working on right now. Is that the type of driving course the insurance companies mean? Or are there other courses in addition that I can take?
As a side note, I'm 16 and I'm due to get my license in May. Probably won't have my own car 'til college, though.
