Auto-dimming problem

I have a new samsung 515v. When I turn it on, the signal test window comes up, and floats around the screen. (normal) After 3 seconds or so, the screen dim's itself so the image is barely visable.

It doesn't matter wether it is connected to a PC or not.

Bad LCD? Any ideas?

So it does this, even while connected to a PC too? I can imagine, that if it doesn't get a sync signal, it goes into a power-save and eventually to a powed-down mode, but it shouldn't do that while connected to a PC showing the desktop, at least not unless you have Windows' power-saving enabled to kick in after such a short time.
