This is indeed a tragedy. Almost every single church you see is part of a larger organization. These have governing bodies which make decisions for the church at large, but often leave micro-management up to the local church themselves. The fact of the matter is, the pastor of a church, the elders, the priests/nuns, ect. are all people. And yes, all people are sinful, even the Billy Grahams out there. Unfortunately, we sinners screw up, and sometimes we screw up big time. You'll occasionally see pastors have affiars, or priests get away with molesting children for X number of years, or the kind of thing this article talks about. And yes, it can unfortunately go unchecked if the proper church government is not in place to keep pastors, elders, lay-persons accountable for their actions. Even with a proper church government, people can do evil things behind closed doors. There are no perfect people. It stinks. But just as much as I need Christ's death to pay for my sins, so do all of these church leaders. They are no different than you or me; we're all sinners in need of a savior - Jesus.Originally posted by: uncJIGGA
I never said all churches are wacked. What I asked was how the wacked churches can exist in the first place...what kind of control mechanisms are there in Protestant churches? I'm familiar with the hierarchy in Catholicism (which still isn't effective in dealing with abusive priests) but I don't know how other churches work.Originally posted by: ShotgunEd
just because of one church you are going to say all the other churches are wacked?
there are a lot of retarded "non-christian" people
For me personally, I could never choose Christianity because its just way too different from what I grew up with at home and doesn't make any sense...
nobody is saying they are different, that's exactly why he is saying they should be held accountable just like everyone else, and the church is responsible for that.
