Ta-Nehasi Coats visited Israel and the occupied territories. Wrote a book on the oppression of Palestinians.
Coates dispels brilliantly the usual talking points levied against anyone defending the Palestinians. Worth a listen.

Less combative but informational about his trip tp the Middle East.

I’ll check this out later.
There are two things I cannot get over.
First Hamas unquestionably started this fight
Second for my entire life both parties involved in the conflict have never been interested in a permanent deal. They always comply for a time then don’t comply.

I have trouble letting go of those facts. I do not want to further our involvement in a conflict that has no resolution.

Sad thing is that the Palestinians are just a pawn of larger Arab interests and the west. They have never had any champions.

While I am no expert they do what all repressed places do. When given the opportunity to vote, the vote for the same shitty people who want a conflict. As I said above it is hard for me to get over this. When you are willingly supporting someone who wants conflict you have at least some accountability regarding that conflict.

They had a choice once over a decade ago. Since then the people in Gaza have not been given a choice. Hamas are assholes for sure, but once they had power in Gaza they never even pretended to give a shit about what the people of Gaza wanted. Conflict seems kind of inevitable when the other side keeps taking your shit and basically locks you a giant concentration camp with the only goal of making sure you don't starve to death. Plus the land in the west bank the Israelis keep taking.

I'm willing to bet you've never lived under a level of oppression and hopelessness the people of Gaza and the West Bank have. This is a conflict where both sides do shitty things to each other to keep it going because the people on top on both sides need the conflict to continue for their own personal power. Fuck the leaders on both sides.

Did a bit of digging. In 1947 when the UN forced a map in Palestine designating areas for the Jews and Arabs the Arab population was 66% yet the UN only granted them 44% of the land. Wonder why the Arabs didn't agree.
