When the authors you read as a teen start dying off, you start feeling your years.

Fred Saberhagen, Robert Jordan, David Eddings.

He died in June but I just heard about it. He left $20mm to a college and $10mm to a hospital. Guess the suckiness of his later books didn't hurt his wallet too much.

The Belgariad was the first fantasy series I remember reading so it'll always hold that special place, despite it also being the pinnacle of his career from which everything else ran a distant second. Thanks for the memories Dave.

thinking about reading his books once i finish off Ed Greenwoods stuff. always get those two mixed up it's the "Ed and Eddings"

Whoa, Jordan passed away? Damn, the Wheel of Time series is insane.

Dn't know if he added any books to the series over the last couple of years, but I've read through the bulk of it twice already.

The Belgariad is worth reading, don't bother with anything else.

Didn't realize he died. At first, to me, his books were awesome. Then, as other posters noted, stuff just start to get repetitive. It's been 15 or so years at least since I've read any of his stuff. Generous of him to donate that money.

And the Elenium was a copy of the Mallorean
And the Tamuli was a copy of the Elenium

Couldn't he have at least made the all-powerful gem a different color for the next set? Still, the Belgariad is one of the all-time great fantasy series. Interesting and unique characters.

Wow... I didn't know this. Guess I'll have to make a trip to the bookstore and pick up the Belgaraid series for a re-read. One of my favorite authors...

RIP 🙁
