Authenticating Win2k on a 98 Network???

Hey everyone! I have a problem.

I have Windows 2000 on my laptop. The school I go to runs bascially all laptops with Win98. Windows 98 authenticates with the domain differently than Win 2000 does. Is there any way for me to log on to the domain like Win98 does but using 2000? I don't have access rights with my account to add my computer to the domain, but I do have a basic User name / password like everyone else does that are running 98. Please help, big issue cause I can't get to the mapped drives without having to log on to each one separately. Hope I was clear with everything.................. Thanks.

~Phil
