In our Environment, we have over 20 logonserver within our domain environment. I want my pc to authenticate to my local logonserver as to the logon server that responds first. Is there a way to force this? I've try lmhost and host file and set the enable LMHOST lookup and still authenticating in another location.

Thanks for any help or info.

Assuming W2K AD...
A "local" DC is defined by what site you are in, which is determined by what IP subnet you're on.

Create multiple sites in your forest, and assign the DCs appropriately. Then you'll authenticate to a "local" DC.

Thanks for the reply. this is on Windows 2k AD. Is there anything I can do on the client site and to on the win2k server domain forest. Otherwise I would have to go thru a big process as do walking over to the clients and pointing them to the local logonserver.

what are you asking????

Creating Sites...the changes are all on the AD...Sites and Services tool. The clients will update over time and reboots, depending on the client OS. (2K vs XP)

Since you're not familiar w/ the concept of "sites", I don't think you should be running off to make these changes. Go read some books on AD, networks, TCP/IP, sites, site topology, replication, etc. Maybe it should be spelled out here, you will need enhanced privileges to implement any of these changes.

AFAIK, there is no way to change the client behaviour with a client-side change, short of using a firewall to block connectivity to the other DCs.

I agree with Woodie. The sites really need to be setup properly in AD and you shouldnt be looking for a way to circumvent this behavior.

Let Active Directory do its job.
