You know they throw an NBA, NFL, etc. tag on it, call it authentic and then sell it for $30. How do you know the difference, especially when buying them on ebay?

What makes it "authentic"?
It's a piece of clothing. Even if it's a "counterfeit product", if the fabric, stitching, everything else is identical; what's the difference?

I know someone who was selling fakes on EBay...Hologram and everthing. Couldn't tell them from real, excpt for the price. He did list them as REPRODUCTION, so not a total scam.

Air pollution that stings your eyes, needles on the beach, and bodies found in landfills. Oh wait, sport jerseys!

A friend of mine sells a lot of "counterfeit" clothing with name brands on it. He explained it this way: They set up shop overseas to make this clothing. The name brand pays for, say, 50,000 units of something. The shop makes 55,000 units - the other 5,000 find their way into the market through other means. Those 5000 are identical to the other 50,000 that brand x wanted. But, they're not "legitimate." Everything about them is identical, right down to the 8 year olds running the sewing machines. The only difference is that since they make it into the market illegitimately, they tend to cost less.

This isn't always the case, but very often, they actually are identical. No difference. Nada. Except the price.

First step, take a look at the brand. Of all the professional sports, these are the companies which make their authentic jerseys:

NBA: Reebok
NFL: Reebok
Arena Football: Nike
NHL: CCM
MLB: Majestic

Second step, take a look at the tags. Check the pictures of the retail version available at the official shop of the league. Be sure the look at size of tags, logos, fonts, colors, etc.

Third step, take a look at the price. If it's cheap... it ain't real. Generally, authentic jerseys should fall like this:

NBA: $150
NFL: $200-$250 (usually $230)
Arena Football: NOT YET AVAILABLE
NHL: $200 ($275 when there's hockey, lol)
MLB: $140-$220 (usually $160)

If you don't know the difference, don't buy from eBay.

If you saw one of each in real life, you'd know instantly. heavier material, stitching, and the tag itself would say authentic, not replica.

VERY easy to tell for hockey, as rh71 mentioned, the NHL authentics have the fight strap.
