I am doing a school assignment on the new AUP from Telstra (In Oz) and the new 3Gb Data Cap. I need resources etc...So if you have an opinion, post it. If you've seen a site about this crap, post the URL. Muchly appreciated! :D

Ziggy's a dickhead. There, that's my opinion.

I'm wondering what this limit entails also. Is it just for other internet providers going through Telstra? I heard a bit about it on the news but it wasn't explained too well.

Huh? I live in Aussie land and haven't heard about this yet....although I have been hiding under a rock for the past year (for tax purposes of course!) :)

Got a link to anything about it, or a summary of the situation?

Is that 3GB a month? For the past week I've been downloading more than that a day. Lots of anime and ISO's

So what do you think of Paul Hogan doing those Subaru Outback commercials?

RossMan, haven't seen that Ad....

OK, here it is:
A couple of Weeks ago, Telstra imposted a limit of 3Gb a month Download on all it's Broadband Internet Plans (Cable/Sat/ADSL). On some of the faster services, this means that you could use your connection at full speed for 1.8% of a month before you go over your limit.

If you are (or were) on Telstra, what do you think of this Acceptable Use Policy?

<<So what do you think of Paul Hogan doing those Subaru Outback commercials?>>

I've never seen them. I don't really care what he does, we don't own him.

AndyHui, that's a huge difference! Why did they decide to do it? I'd think that 3GB is way too small.

Mods, I will remove the following if it is too strong. Let me know.

News Post:

Pardon, am I tripping? WHY are we being capped and then charged per megabyte? WHY am I paying $89.00 a month for a deal that cost me hundreds in installation and a forced 18 month plan? WHY is it when I talk to telstra during the installation of my GAY-DSL did the guys tell me that they are limiting throughput to 512kbps because they do not want to overload the network, and NOW they tell me that they will cap usage because of overuse?

WHY is the cap at 3 F*CKING GB? When clearly that limit is F*CKING easily reached when downloadable movies are at 600Mb PER F*CKING CLIP? WHY is it 3GB a month when in a 6 F*CKING hours I can download over 800MB?

ARE THEY NOT F*CKING AWARE OF THEIR KEY USERS THAT WENT ON THIS PROGRAM FOR THE FREEDOM OF D/L?

ARE THEY NOT AWARE THAT IT IS THE FORERUNNERS IN THE ADOPTION OF BROADBAND THAT HAVE PROVIDED THEM WITH THE CASH FLOW AND UPTAKE NECESSARY FOR THEIR SERVICE TO SURVIVE? WHY DO WE THE INITIAL CUSTOMER HAVE TO BE FORCED INTO SUCH A F*CKED UP ARRANGEMENT, WHEN CLEARLY IT IS WE THE EARLY ADOPTERS THAT RECOMMEND THE SERVICE TO THE LAGGARDS, HENCE DOING TELSTRA?S JOB OF ADVERTISING BROADBAND TO THOSE LESSER USERS?

HAS ANYONE SEEN A PROPER MEDIA CAMPAIGN FOR BROADBAND? NO, BECAUSE WE HAVE DONE THEIR JOB FOR THEM.

WHY THE F*CK IS THE DEAL CALLED THE FREEDOM PLAN WHEN THERE IS AN ENFORCED AND CHARGED REQUIREMENT?

WHO OUT OF THE THOUSANDS OF CABLE/ADSL USERS WOULD HONESTLY ASK AND ACCEPT A CAPPED D/L LIMIT?

WHEN IT IS POSSIBLE TO D/L 1MB IN 5 SECONDS FLAT, HOW CAN TELSTRA CHARGE BY THE MB OVER THE 3GB LIMIT?

THE LARGE MAJORITY OF USERS DO NOT COMPLAIN OF POOR SERVICE. IT IS THE CORE/EARLY ADOPTERS THAT COMPLAIN THE MOST BECAUSE WE CARED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF SERVICE WE RECEIVED.

OVER AND OVER AGAIN TELSTRA F*CKS US UP THE ARSE. THIS IS NOT TO MENTION THE SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS WE HAVE HAD TO ENDURE WITH EACH TELECOM COMPANY F*CKING EACH OTHER OVER WITH EXPENSIVE PEERING SERVICES, REDUCING THE OVERALL PERFROMANCE OF EVERYONE?S CONNECTIONS BECAUSE PROVIDERS HAVE TO ROUTE DATA FLOWS ALL AROUND AUSTRALIA TO CUT COSTS.

WHAT THE F*CK ARE THESE @SSHOLE, F*CKED IN THE HEAD C*NTS DOING WITH OUR MONEY?? IT?S OBVIOUS THAT THEY ARE SIMPLY REPORTING YEAR ON YEAR PROFIT INCREASES WHILE CUTTING THE QUALITY OF THEIR SERVICE. TOTAL F*CK HEADS.

CONVENTIONAL BUSINESS SENSE WOULD INDICATE THAT WITH THE INCREASED FREQUENCY OF ADOPTION OF BROADBAND, TELSTRA SHOULD BE ABLE TO SUPPORT MORE USERS BY SEPNDING EARNINGS ON IMPROVING THE TELECOM NETWORK.

BUT NO, IT SEEMS 5% OF USERS ARE ABLE TO BRING DOWN THE ENTIRE COMPANY?S PLANS AND RESULT IN A F*CKING CAP ON ALL USERS. HOW POOR IS THE MANAGEMENT OF TELSTRA?S COMMUNICATIONS BUSINESS IS IT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN?

THIS IS NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT IF WE WEREN?T WITH TELSTRA FOR LOCAL CALLS AND INTERNATIONAL WE?D HAVE TO PAY $105 FOR GAY-DSL.

F*CKING SH*T COMPANY. F*CK THEY SUCK THE BIG FAT ONE, AND SCREW EVERYONE IN AUSTRALIA OVER. GODD@MN F*CKING @SS LOVING C*NT F@GGOT MONGALOID COMPANY.

I urge everyone under the oppressive rule of Telstra to complain and write into helpdesk.ADSL@bigpond.com or helpdesk@bigpond.net.au and F*CKING complain to the maximum level possible. I KNOW I WILL BE. FREECALL 1800 060 391

My Letter To Telstra:

Hello,
If you want, you can send this straight to the recycle bin; yes, this is another complaint about your 3Gb Cap on Downloads on your Broadband plan.
I?m not going to swear and scream at you; but I?d really like it if you could forward this on to Mr. Switkowski.

As the main provider of Internet in Australia, you have a responsibility to provide a certain level of service to the Australian Public. Now, I have heard that you only guarantee 2400bps out of your telephone lines. That is really not satisfactory, in fact, that is really disappointing. For a company that keeps posting record profits, you cant even give people decent phone lines. Oh, so your going to blame it on a great lack of cash because One.Net didn?t pay their bill. Right?.

I recently went to a Computer Swap Meet where Telstra representatives were displaying the latest Satellite internet technology. Wow, that is sweet stuff. 400Kbps?unlimited download?..I would love it. Dialup just doesn?t cut it compared to that. Then I have a look at the prices?.
64Kbps Downstream, 56K(Modem Upstream); Near $400 installation, $55 a month + ISP charges for the modem Upstream connection, on an 18 month contract. Hmmm?..I was paying $21.95 a month for One.Net unlimited, I was connected PERMANENTLY, and I downloaded 4Gb in 14 Days?over a 56K modem. Now, If I go on Telstra Satellite, I pay nearly double the monthly access fee for pretty much the same speed, only now you have imposed a 3Gb cap on all your broadband services.

I need to ask why. I know the fact that some people were abusing the system, but seriously, 3Gb? I could do that on a modem. I think we have a half meg microwave connection at school and I was downloading at 600Kb/sec today. That?s 2.1 Gigabyte (2100Mb) AN HOUR. At full speed, I could use your ?fast? plans for maybe 90 minutes before incurring extra download charges.

Why would I join Telstra Broadband? No, I don?t want to view my Hotmail in half a second, I want consistent download speed?.You wont see old people getting BPA to check their email, REAL users of the internet want BPA because of it?s speed. But what use is speed when we can?t use it consistently?

In conclusion, In my opinion Telstra is Stunting the growth of Information Technology in Australia. Open your eyes Mr Switkowski and see what your customers want.
