And I was wondering what I should see/do.

I'll be staying in Manly and taking classes at Macquarie for all of July. I'll have some weeknights and all the weekends free, and I believe I'm getting some unlimited public transit pass or something along those lines. I know a couple people on here live down under, and I would like to put together a list of places in and around Sydney that are neat.

I'm currently thinking of touring some wineries, as I am a fan of Australian wine. Maybe some surf lessons (haha) and I'd like to go to some clubs (trance / techno if at all possible, not a big fan of normal 'club' music).

Any suggestions?

I've swam with sting rays. They aren't really even dangerous. What happened to Steve Irwin was a freak accident. It's about a likely as going to the dentist and dying.

This was in Grand Cayman:

I just heard there is a terrible drought there with water restrictions in effect in some areas. So bring lots of bottled water.

Yeah I'd defiantly be in for that. If I can I want to take a trip up to the Great Barrier Reef, but I think I might need to stay a few extra days past the end of the program to fully enjoy it.

I am so jealous.

We spent about 8 days in Sydney and it wasn't enough, we basically did the tourist thing. I'd love to visit or move to Australia in the near future.

I'm going there in about 2 weeks on business. Last July I was in Melbourne for a couple of weeks; this time it will be Brisbane. Where is Dug from?

there are plenty of good nightclubs in manly, very close to the beach. Other place's I can reccommend are Kings Cross, especially if you like entertainment of the female variaty (or shemale variaty if you are into that sort of thing), the Cross has plenty in the way of nightclubs as well.

Darling Harbour Circular Quay and Bondi (plenty of topless chicks in the summer) are nice places to visit, plenty of shopping and things to see. other than that don't venture to far out west, Sydney gets pretty crummy once you get past Parramatta (I work there).

there are lots of things to do in Sydney, just be warned that the outer suburbs (and a few inner suburbs) have an extremly high crime rate and can be very dangerous at night, avoid suburbs like Lakemba, Liverpool, Cabramatta/Canleyvale and Mt Druitt/Penrith at night...very very unpleasant.

If you have a car, steer clear of the Mt Druitt/Penrith region, it won't last long there (I speak from experience).

that dreadful beer should be avoided at all costs (it's pretty hard to get in NSW any way)

If you are going to Pubs/clubs to drink, try Melbourne Bitter, Carlton Draught or Victorian Bitter (in that order) they are some of Australia's finest beers.
