Hopefully RossMAN will make an appearance in this thread.

His wife is from AUS and should be able to answer any questions you might have.

I lived most of my life in Melbourne. It's a nice place and the people have a great sense of humour.

Sydney people tend to be more impatient. I don't like Sydney for various reasons.

Cool! My wife and I are flying out for Sydney this Wednesday. We'll be renting a car and taking in the sights between Syndney and Melbourne and the surrounding area. Any suggestions for things to see?

A lot of the things to see in Sydney are within the city itself, such as Darling Harbour, the Opera House, Circular Quay, Bondi Beach.

Go a little further out and visit the Blue Mountains. Well worth seeing.

There's not that much to see within Melbourne's city... you will need to travel in order to see things like the pengiuns at Phillip Island. There won't be that many penguins at this time of the year though...a couple of hundred instead of a few thousand.

I was there many years ago (89') Great place 😀 If your in the Blue Mountain area go see the Genolan (sp?) caves....... one of the wonders of the world.

ps. I got the katooba's in Katooba 😉

Cheers,
Aquaman

My wife is a native Aussie.

Born in Sydney but moved to Canberra when she was 2, so she knows Canberra quite well but not Sydney or Melbourne.

We might move there in a few years either to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

What would she put on the list of things to see with 2.5 weeks?

I know Canberra very well which is very beautiful and peaceful. Within Sydney, I'd recommend Taronga Zoo, Centrepoint AMP Tower, Opera House, Darling Harbour Aquarium, monorail.

Yep I agree with all those in Sydney.

Australia is also filled with beautiful women but we're both married 😱

I've been to the Jenolan caves a number of times and it's a great place to see.

I was in Sydney for a month 2 years ago. I stayed with my cousins and we did more "local" things like go out and drink at the pubs and check out the Greek bars. We also saw a Wests Tigers footie match.

Do the tourist-type things like climb the Harbour Bridge, shop in the Rocks District and see a show at the Opera House. Go check out the "largest Imax screen in the southern hemisphere" at Darling Harbour. If you collect Hard Rock T-shirts, there's one in Sydney. If you want to bring back souveiners (sp?) go to the Paddy Market rather than the shops in the city. The market has much lower prices.

We also went on "holiday" to Surfer's Paradise for a week. It was too cold to swim, but we did scuba dive and go to Sea World and a Six Flags type place.

There are many Macca's (McDonalds) that are open late, so big macs are a nice late-night snack after a night of drinking.

Man, I wish I could go back.....

Ha... we were "certified" on the boat ride to the spot. I don't know the terminilogy, but I guess we buddy dived.

The deal was $100Au for a 3hr long session, which included "training", the trip out, the dive, and the trip back. Most of us had never been diving before. They quickly went over the basics, and we put everything on and jumped in. It wasn't too deep, though. Maybe 10m deep? I really don't remember.

I wasn't under too long because I was kind of scared/nervous so I was taking deep breaths and used up my air quickly. I also broke a bar off the boat and it fell on our instructor's head and caused her bleed. I just had a bad day, I guess.

That was probably the funniest story I had from the trip.
