Austin, TX

Hey,

Anyone from Austin? I might be heading there in a few weeks. Just wondering what's there to do as far as a night life. What's the scene like? I'm used to hanging out on Sunset and the West side in LA. How liberal is Austin? Is it liberal by Texas standards or liberal by the rest of the US standards. Anyone?

Ah Home, how I miss it.
Austin isn't very touristy but there are alot of neat local things to do.
Hit 6th street and the warehouse district and find some live music.
Catch a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse (the one Downtown) and have a beer while watching something unusual.
Visit the State History Museum.
Drink a coffee at Mojo's Daily Grind.
Visit the Capitol and the underground mall.
Eat dinner at the Oasis and watch the sun set over Lake Travis.
lots of other things, will post them as I can think of them.

Austin is the "live music capitol of the world"

Check out 6th street

Especially Pete's Dueling Pianos (way cooler than it sounds)

Lots of hot chicks

eat at County Line Bar B Q- some of the best in Texas

There's tons of stuff to do in Austin. There's 6th street if you're old. If you're young, there's about 50 different parties on any given night, thanks to UT.

There's a lot of high culture artsy stuff in Austin. The hillcountry isn't far away either.

I've heard a lot about he hot chix at Austin. There's no blocks of bars or anything? Doest 6th steet have that?

Jsoles - Hmm...I'll have to check out that out. BBQ...damn that sounds good right about now.

I Live in San Antonio but go to Austin alot. Austin is the most liberal part of TX... but it's nothing compared to the liberals in CA. Dont' expect the same thinking. As for hang out spots... 6th street is about it unless you know someone going to UT Austin. Otherwise.. Austin sucks. All you have is I10 and that's it. No other major road through the town and as such everything got built up on one street. Which kicks ass for 1 street... but it's still one street.

Austin TX:

1. HUGE college town
2. Expensive college town
3. Tons of bars/clubs/whatever
4. Hordes of college girls looking for a free ride
5. You + some money + video camera = www.c0llegefcckfest.com!!!! 😀

Austin is the shiznitz if you've got the dollars and the patience; I spent many a lost weekend there b/t 1994-1998. Have fun!

Sounds like my kind of place. Going to be heading there often on the company dime next few years.

As I said.... 6th street and UT Austin are basically it for the fun crowd. There are some hole in the wall places but I wouldn't expect a warm welcome unless you are over 40 if you are alone or over 25 and with a significant other. The college girls are EASY if very expensive. That's just Texas. The college girls are Caucasian or Asian.. and know they look good compared to the 70% of fat ass hispanics around here. Don't get me wrong, there are awsome looking hispanic girls... but your chances with them are next to zero. Don't expect them to look twice in your direction unless you are wearing a necklace with 1 million dollars wrapped around it. As for the other good looking college chicks.. you don't need that much cash but they are still expensive. Look to spend $100 or more per bar on 6th street on THEM alone to get them to hang with you as they get drunk. Get them drunk enough and they are easy as pie to fill 🙂 If you are old enough though... 6th street has plenty of older women that are horny as hell and looking to be laid for the first time in months and don't give a damn who they get with. I'm serious.

Otherwise, Austin sucks. It rocks if you can meet or exceed the conditions of an out of towner... it sucks if you can't for chicks and fun at least. You could always visit the bat caves though...

Austin has nothing on San Antonio for queers.... Sorry bud. It's liberal but not in that sense compared to SA. Look up main street in San Antonio.... 9 gay bars in a row on one street alone... that half of them on the same block. It's bad. My apartment complex is 80% gay and I'm no where near the major gay areas. So no, Austin is not the gay capital of Texas... just the capital.

All this talk of Texas makes me miss it. I grew up there and will be moving back next year when i finish school. I like Texas much better than the east coast.
