Heading to Austin this weekend to hang out with a friend. We're not from Austin and are looking for things to do Saturday afternoon and night.

We know about 6th street and plan on doing that Saturday night. Any recommendations on places? Heard good things about Plush so far.

Also heard 4th street was up and coming but not sure it would be something to checkout.

Lastly what all is there for food and attraction around early afternoon?
 
Almost every place on 6th street does NOT have a cover charge or dress code. If you want to spend time on 6th you usually plan on bar hopping from place to place. You meet different people and get the vibe of each bar. I typically hit up 6 or 7 places on a given night, 15+ when someone is turning 21.

4th street is more upscale and caters to post college age people. You typically find places on 4th to have cover and/or dress codes. The atmosphere is much more adult.

As far as food, what are you looking for? I can make tons of recommendations but it is best to suit your tastes.

As far as food not too terribly picky. Not big on Cajun, but like the usual steak, burgers, Italian and so forth. Haven't set on a particular type.

6th street is awesome if you're underage. 4th street was up and coming over a decade ago; it's full on here now.

It's great fun.

Lots of food, all of Austin's best local beer, and hours of awesome people watching.

We go down early in the morning with our friend who volunteers at the medical tent. Quite a few doctors, nurses, and EMTs volunteer and treat all the drug overdosing, dehydration, and minor emergencies.
