Aureal Vortex 8830 sound card - worked fine in 98SE, doesn't work in XP!

I installed XP pro yesterday and it seemed to locate all my hardware fine (there's even a driver for my soundcard in device manager and it says it's working fine, but when I try to play an MP3 in Media Player, I only get sound for about 5 min, and then everything (even system sounds) cuts out. The music keeps playing in the program, but I can't get any sort of sound at all from my computer!

Anyone had this problem or have a solution for it? I'm dyin' here!

Thanks,
Mike

Try using the CD player (and a music CD, duh) and see if you get the same problem.

Problem solved - i downloaded the small zip file and changed the values - pretty cool that XP has native support for .zip files! Anyway - can I uninstall the program now, or should I keep the folder in my windows directory?

Thanks a lot.

I've got a KT266A motherboard and a Vortex 2 sound card. However, neither of the posted sites mention problems with that chipset. Anyone know if the problem occurs with this kind of setup?

I'd think that it would work for yours - I've got a Dell Dimension XPS B 933 - and I looked on the dell website for documentation and can't find ANYTHING about the mobo chipset - and it worked for me.

If it doesn't, just do a system restore, and it'll take you back to before you caused trouble - no biggie.
