No its not that. Lets not make any conclusions about wheather their moves has anything to do with EAX and A3D. CL basically wants monoply in the soundcard businness, and Aureal is the only one capable of being in their way. If CL gets Aureal that means they will become the MS of soundcards. Think about it, ESS? Yamaha? Turtle Beach? There is no way these little guys can give CL any trouble. I support the sale of Aureal to Guillemot. It will be a nightmare if CL got them.

I'd like to see A3D on my Live. I've never heard A3D, so I like to see what all these Aureal loyalists are talkin about.

Yes, It would be a horrible if CL did get them. I hope the FTC steps in a stops it.. At least then theres a chance of someone else buying them. And then competition can continue. Competition is good. CL is not.

I just dont get why you people hate CL so much. It was only for their own sake that I didnt want Aureal to fall into their hands.

That is gonna suck if CL buys aureal. I would imagine they probably have more money than guilemont (sp?).

I hope nvidia buys 'em.

Rumor has it nvidia is making the sound chip for the xbox, it would be nice if it was an a3d chip. that would really help promote the technology, and become a serious competitor with CL.

the only possible downfall would be it would make nvidia even MORE dominant.

here an interesting fact for you guys... do you remember media vision? both aureal and 3dfx were started by guys from that company, and now they are both going down. And all 3 of those companies were really damn good, wtf is going on?

Jimmy likes to play in the trainyard...

Anyway - Guillemot will get Aureal, because there is no way in hell the govt will allow CL to pick them up.

If CL does get Aureal, chances are they won't be getting any nVidia graphics chips once nVidia enters that market.:D

That would take out a good chunk of their income.:Q

As far as I know, one of Aureals bigger problems was when something like 10-20 of their top engineers quit to go work for nVidia back in January maybe?? So who knows.. maybe they are working on a new sound chip.

I dont really hate CL. Its just, that their product the SB Live, IMO, and most agree, just isnt as good as the VortexII chip. And everyone seems to hate Microsoft for their so called 'monopoly'. And it seems your condoning the fact that they want a monopoly, thats a PREFECT reason why this deal shouldnt happen. Any basic economics class can teach you, Monopoly = bad, Competition = Good.

right now, all we're worried about is driver support for our current cards..

I seriously thought creative was releasing a driver or something that allows them to do A3D 1.0.. I don't know if that's true though, however A3D's 2.0 is what seperated it from everything else.

I hate Creative, becuase they've done these kinds of things for years. IF they did buy Aureal They probably wouldn't put much of the tech from Aureal into their own cards. they want to buy aureal to cover their asses, so they don't have any competition if someone picks them up again. they know the knowledge that Aureal developed could have wasted them in early this year (SQ3500), and now that that isn't a problem, they just have to worry about a company buying Aureal, and getting a nice big boost (from Aureal's tech) and become a big competitor.

Creative is afraid of competition in that arena. bottom line.

DAMNIT GUILLEMOT, BUY THEM ALREADY!

sorry to say evildonnyboy, but if you'd have gone with the vortex2 then you could have the best of both worlds, A3d and EAX since they support it (in software perhaps?) Anywho I've heard both and I must say A3d sounds better, but takes a bigger chunk out of system resources (a worth while trade off if you're serious about your sound...)

With the patent infringement judgement, Aureal is like a ship hopelessly sinking in shallow water. Nobody is gonna touch her til she quits shifting on the bottom, and then only at salvage value.

Creditors' whining will probably get nowhere, it's just a ploy to raise the bid.

My understanding of the issues is incomplete, but it strikes me that anybody who buys Aureal would have to obtain licensing from Creative to use the technology, not a likely scenario. Only Creative has much to gain, and they can just wait for the scrap sale deal...

One guy's opinion.

"A3d and EAX since they support it (in software perhaps?)" actually Vortex 2 cards (maybe even Vortex 1?) can do EAX in hardware, it's the wavetracing that requires power that isn't available in the Vortex 1 and 2 chips. yeah it supports EAX, so I'm ok with games at least for a while!

the SQ3500 would have provided the extra power that was needed for A3D 2.0, and now 3.0 (with hardare MP3, Dolby digital decoding in hardware IN GAMES, etc) to run in hardware, so you wouldn't have a hit in your games.

I hate monopolies period. I want someone other than Creative or Nvidia to buy Aureal. i agree with soccerman completely when he said that Creative only wants Aureal to cover their asses. A3D is their biggest competition at this time and Creative will be damned if they let someone else continue the legacy of the best sound API to date.
