Aureal Sound Card Issue

I installed an Aureal sound card that uses the Vortex 1 Chipset. It was a used one so I had to locate the drivers, I found them and installed them fine but now when widows starts the intro music begins but stops and the computer freezes up. My motherboard has onboard sound but I have disabled that in the bios. Could this be an IRQ conflict? Any help is appreciated.
