Aureal 8830 driver for Win2k?

I have a slight problem. The Aureal Vortex driver that comes with Windows 2000, as you might know, doesn't actually work with the AU8830 (Vortex2) chipset based boards, and now that Aureal no longer exists there is nowhere to download the AU8830 driver for Win2k, since their website was the only place that had this driver. If anyone has or knows where I can get this driver, please let me know, I need it very badly since I currently have NO SOUND in Windows 2000.

Probably the best resource for Aureal still on the net is www.vortexofsound.com. Check the forum there, if I recall someone posted some new Vortex2 Win2k drivers a week or so ago (don't use Win2k so didn't pay to much attention to it so kinda slim on details). But unfortunately all of the Win2k driver sets are buggy and doesn't look like it's gonna be fixed ever. =(

See, I find this odd. Ive seen a couple of these posts now. I have a diamond MX300, and I use the stock drivers that came with win2k and my card works GREAT. I wonder what exactly it is that differs from you guys and myself. Whats your system like?

As far as I know if you use the Win2k drivers you will have sound just not A3D, I tried all the suggestions for getting the beta drivers to work on the various websites and never was able to get A3D working, so I too am now just using the Win2k drivers for sound. When I want to play games I boot into 98SE. Need new working drivers!!!

Ah, A3D. Of course. I never ever really use A3D. Dont really play any games that use it. But as far as all other sound, and running games that dont need A3D, I have no problems whatsoever.

I don't know about differences between the different vortex2 sound cards, but none of the win2k drivers work for full sound support with via chipsets. There currently is no solution, and probably never will be.

Regular sound does work fine on intel chipset motherboards with a lack of A3D in win2k. Quad speaker is a bit tricky, but does work

2 reasons that were powerful enough to make me use the reference drivers instead of win2k standard drivers.
First was the static coming from the rear speakers. I use the fronts to drive the main speakers and the rear outputs to record from. The static was pretty bad.
Second was the bass response was below par. A small 5min hassle setting up the drivers made a big diff.

I have had great results with the latest win2k beta (about 1 month old) released on the a3dfan site. Unless my ears are deceiving me a3d IS working as well! You should be able to find a link at vortexofsound.
