Aural Vortex2 and Win2k - a possability?

Who here has a Vortex2 sound card, and windows 2k working well with it?

What drivers are you using w/ it? Windows 2k installed drivers for mine on inital install, and i installed the newest vortex2 drivers from www.vortexofsound.com afterwards.

Whenever I play sound, my comp will lock up, or reboot. I disabled "reboot on error", and i got a memory dump error message.

I'm using Win2k w/ my onboard audio. :ugh: freaky stuff!

Help me out?

i'm pretty sure the aureal cards have known problems with asus mobo's...at least the p2b's and a7v's i've tried them on....

Hmm, I believe that mobo has a VIA southbridge on it, despite its AMD northbridge, in which case you should try doing the fix for
vortex2 cards on VIA chipsets found at Vortex of Sound. Applies to win2k and XP.

Do a search on the net for the modified drivers that the certain users of vortex2 cards have developed. I use to use it on win2k and it solved many of the problems (i.e., lockups, unnecessary noise when using the mouse wheel, weird pop noises, etc.). Actually, there's website dedicated to the vortex sound card users that has tons of info. and tweaked drivers (not created by aureal) ever since aureal went belly up.

I am running a Vortex2 card (MX300) in Win2K (native drivers) on a VIA MoBo.
I used
this fix to get around it.

Works GREAT!

I must be lucky or smart, because my Vortex2 (MX300) has worked perfectly under Windows 98, Me, 2000, and XP without having to install any kind of patch or tweak any settings.

I have a VIA KT266A mobo.

Under 2000, I use the latest Aureal beta drivers from Vortex of Sound. Under XP, I use the native XP drivers. No skipping or any other weirdness. Just good, clean, sound.

hows sound quality under win2k with au8830? last time i tried it would crash my sound if i minimized half-life. does that still happen? ive been running my old sb pci 128 cause of that problem. what have your experiences been?

I'm using my MX300 in Win2K on a KT133A board. Before I applied the vortex of sound fix, I lost all sound about 5 minutes after boot.

Once I used that patch, I have had no problems and the sound quality is exactly the same as it was on 98SE as far as I can tell.

edit: oops, I meant winXP, not 2K...
