AMD sold more 5900 then NV 480 in Aug.
460 almost caught up with 480.
480 is very far from being a successful money maker. 460 is a different story. :)

Blocked at my job.

Curious, can anyone break down the pace at which the 460 was adopted. This could shed some light on the constant "460 can't be selling good if it's getting discounted so badly" comments.

My guess is it's selling good to catch up to the 480 considering the shelf time for each, then again the 480 is like 2x-2.5x the cost.

Hard to say. For whatever reason Steam seems to lump ATI cards into categories like 5800 and 5700 series. Be nice to get a break down between 5850,5870 and 5830 cards.

The 470 has actually done rather well with 4.59%.

Be interesting to see where the 460 comes up at the end of Sept. It had a great month of August that is for sure.

NVIDIA - 59.11%
ATI - 32.98%

Intel - 72.37%
AMD - 27.63%

Looks like the 5xxx series dropped a lot compared to the other DX11 cards. It's too bad they don't lump the 4xx series together like they do the 58xx series. Although DX11 cards are at 10%.

460 share in july = .57%
460 share in August = 3.43% for a 2.86% jump

The next nearest competitor for increase is the 470 at .67%

I'd say the 460 is selling rather well.

So it sold roughly 600% in the that time frame. I'd say that is great growth regarldess of unit count (I know, 3 in month x, 18 in month y.)

Are you lazy to add 4 numbers? :)

Until I've had about 6 cups of coffee..........

yes. :p

EDIT: I don't mind the hardware survey so much, but they sure are collecting a lot of data about what else is on your computer. Scroll down to the software survey, I'm surprised by how many people run torrent software.

ATI lump their cards together.
If you check the control panel, or use a program like GPU-Z, you will see "4800 Series" or "5800 series" instead of a specific model.
Steam just reports it as it is reported to Steam.

I hope you weren't trying to make a point with those overall GPU % numbers.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2037328
From December:

GPU:
nVidia - 63.46%
ATI - 27.12%

ATI has gained over 10 points on NV since December, which suggests its cards are selling rather better than NV cards, right? Or at least that people with NV cards are upgrading to ATI cards and not sticking with NV.
At this rate the Steam survey will show them almost even by the end of next year.
And during that time, NV released all their new DX11 cards.

Quoting the numbers you did only highlights the massive gains AMD/ATI have been making on NV, if you assume that Steam has anything to do with actual sales.

that survey highlights how dominant nvidia was for many years, and how now it's amd in the ascendant. however, I don't give a crap, I like my gtx 460, it has great features, heat/power/noise are back under control vs the other fermi cards, and the price was right. only thing I'm worried about is if nvidia ends up sacrificing some of their great developer relations over time and ends up more streamlined like amd.

Can anyone tell me why ATI cards are shown as series instead of individuals and Nvidia cards are the other way around?

Steam just reports it as it is reported to Steam.

So can I say that the statistics is garbage as the data is inaccurate?

I don't think I like that steam checks whats installed on my PC. Next its gonna show how much of my HDD space is dedicated to porn (Which is a lot)

The answer is already in this thread.

What jumped out at me as interesting is that the majority of people with ATI drivers are using ones from August of 2009, and most nvidia people are using ones from April 2010.

The nvidia ones are those release with the 400 series I believe. Are the ATI ones those released around the 5850/5870 time?

58x0 came out sept 24, 2009, but they weren't really available until early/mid oct in volume. funny looking back on it how amd received criticism for a paper, or at least "soft", launch. I guess that's better than a "cardboard" launch, however... :D

1tb isn't really all that much when you have 3tb of storage available, right?

Well... anyone with a brain knows it's all a load of crap since it tells you only what Steam users who submit their data to the Steam survey are using.
What conclusions can you draw from that outside the Steam userbase? None.

Thats why I only have 1tb listed in my sig when I have 2tb total. 1TB of porn is the sweet spot IMHO :D

460 was not selling the whole month of July.

That's even better.

As an ATI guy, the 460 is a damn good card. The GF loves it, and after OCing the ah heck the performance shot up.

Glad nVidia can stay competitive with such a product. Too bad it's kinda late.

But your 600% is only over half a month. Do not expect 600% from Aug to Sep.
If 460 would have been on sale only for a couple of days in July and it sold only 0.03% it would be 10000% based on your logic. Kind of correct but not very useful information.

The problem is I can't draw any conclusion with the Steam userbase because the data itself is ambiguous. Nvidia user actually use a generic driver package and if Nvidia decided to show 2xx/4xx then the data will show a sudden jump from 0... How accurate is that?

Sure thing, hope it continues to bring joy into your every day routines :D

I'm not expecting 600% in any time frame. I was just wondering how much validity the comments in this forum are about the poor sales of the hardware - thus the fire sales. 600% growth is growth none the less, I already added my disclaimer (I know 3 in month x, 18 in month y.)

I'm not bothered to care what their marketshare is, I represent the red camp. But it's just good to see this card pushing competition in the markets.

Wow, as per those numbers, for the the installed base of DX11 video cards, ATI has a huge lion's share

ATI - 87.01%
Nvidia - 12.79%

Nvidia hasn't been able to make up much ground since the release of their DX11 part five months ago. They're just nibbling at the ground ATI gained.

With the 6870 and 6850 coming out in the next few months, ATI will probably take even more of the DX11 landscape and then some.
