Augh! What is Pricewatch even worth if . . .

The first few vendors on the list have horrible ratings on Reseller Ratings?!?

For example, the monitor I'm buying for my new system is a Sony F-500R. There are seven entries on Pricewatch for it.

Matter of Fax - rated at like 1.3
Bay Area Micro - rated at 3.8, but the comments are not glowing
Tufshop.com - less than Matter of Fax
PCStop.com - wonder of wonders, a place with a decent rating!

I'd like to buy the majority of the stuff for my new system online, but man! In the past I've just ordered a few things online and got the rest from my reseller friend, but since I live 2000 miles from him now that's no longer an option. 😉

I stopped using Pricewatch long ago for that very reason. I found myself using shopper.com far more often anyway.

Yeah. I've had good luck with places like Multiwave and Buy.com.

What are some of your preferred vendors, peeps?

<<What are some of your preferred vendors, peeps?>>

Onvia.com, Buy.com, egghead.com, mwave.com, tcwo.com are all good places, and they're not some small reserllers either.

Yeah, I managed to narrow it down fairly well I think . . .

Power supply (Enermax) from Plycon . . .

Cooling stuffs from 2Cool . . .

Memory from Crucial . . .

CD and hard drive from Hyper Micro . . .

Monitor from Monitor Outlet (recommended to me by a few people on the board, plus they have a good rating on R.R.)

And everything else from Mwave. Sure, I'll pay more in the end but I'd rather not have to hassle with RMAs (knocking on wood in the hope everything works out of the box) and crap.

oh yeah, i usually compare pricewatch & buy.com and than check resellerratings.com to make sure..

Outpost.com is another good vendor. Not the best prices, but it's nice to shop with everything including overnight shipping. 🙂

I'd also recommend bestbuy.com and some of the other "big" folks who price match and who you can call if something goes wrong with their product.

Pricewatch is still useful, but only when used in conjunction with other sites (ie resellerratings.com). Normally, though, I still only use pricewatch to get an idea of the "going rate" for an item, then shop for it elsewhere.

I use pricewatch as a starting point... Rock bottom price... And know I'm going to pay more elsewhere, but at least I know how much something is going for at the lowest possible price. Especially if I'm going to a computer show...

Pricewatch is only useful for pricing items for the For Sale/Trade forum. Otherwise, it's useless. I don't care about low price as the sole determinant -- the company matters more. I'll pay an additional premium for customer service at a place like Azzo.com rather than dealing with shipping hassles and incomplete orders from some place like Paragoncomp.com (do NOT order from them!).

I don't even use Reseller Ratings. I just go off of recommendations from people on here and from personal experience.
