Augh... I hate being sick

I had the shakes pretty badly last night and now my head hurts. I hate the taste of cough medicine as well.

Look on the bright side. You can skip work when you're sick. As for me, none of my co-workers ever believe me when I am out sick. Even my boss calls shens without formally saying it.

I can't skip work. I took a huge paycut because I wanted to pursue my college degree. I need to money badly so I can't miss any work days.

What is "shens"?

I've been building up to a cold for like two weeks. Woke up last night at 3AM with my nose pouring snot and my throat killing me. Naturally there was not a single cold remedy of any type in the house (except for Ramen chicken flavor which might have made me puke). I KNOW I had some pseudoephedrine a few days ago but I can't find it.

So I had to take a long hot soaking shower which helped but not a lot. I at least got back to sleep. Then woke up for work and had to go by the store and get some stuff (plus food and drink since there was NOTHING in the house that seemed tasty while sick). Plain donuts and Mt. Dew seemed to work okay for awhile, but you can only eat so many. The pills helped a little with the sinuses but I still felt lousy. I'd expected to feel a lot better which is why I went ahead and worked. Working in the field of course means I spread this far and wide. 🙂

On the way home I picked up some Nyquil and a thermometer (and creamed chipped beef which sounds good to eat while sick, since it's plain). First reading was 101.7, second was 100.6 after I got inside the apartment. Nyquil liquigels are huge pills, the only kind I have to take one at a time. I expect to be so zonked out soon that I'll wake up hearing dirt being shovelled on top of my coffin.

I try not to take days off for little stuff like a cold, if I can take something to make me functional for the day. This beat my usual ways though. Only 3 sick days a year. Sucks when they come right at the beginning. Not even a full week into it. I also don't like to make other people have to take up my slack. We're already working at what we feel is a short-handed level, plus one guy who's not very competent but hasn't quite crossed the line to be fired yet.

Plus the weather sucked today, freezing rain and snow. People driving off the sides of the roads when they were only going 10 miles an hour (not because the road made them do it, just because they were stupid). It took me nearly half an hour to drive the less than 3 miles through one city. No city nor the state is bothering to plow because it just keeps coming down, although I think they could have at least made the effort instead of letting us drive through 6 inches of mud and slush.

I absolutely detest being sick so I wash my hands all of the time and try not to rub my nose, etc. to spread germs. Could be a coincidence but since I've been diligently doing this I haven't had a cold in at least two years.

ok?
Do you have any friends you can call, parents, anyone? Or are they telling you the same thing else does, "no one cares about every detail of your life."

I get sick at most once a year. I think I avoided it last year. I come in contact with so much stuff during my day, it's hard to avoid risking sickness. I desperately need to get a tetanus booster, it's been 10 years and I cut myself on a daily basis, sometimes on the most disgusting equipment. I stabbed a small screwdriver into my palm today; had to conceal the flap of skin and blood from the customer while I finished the work (as well as dig out the bit of skin that got jammed in underneath). I hate having customers see my bodily damage and offer bandages.

I can't avoid rubbing my nose though. Usually half a finger is up there. 🙂 I can get my pinky in down to the last knuckle if it's really slick.

Hope everybody was trying to eat.

Hey guess what. Ignore me, buttmunch. And the answer is no, plus my voice would turn to gravel if I tried to talk right now.

Not that I think anybody with 15000 posts can say anything.
