I am trying to get a amp to power my (2) PYRAMID IMPERIAL PW12290 subs, they are 600RMS each.

I am looking at maybe a 1800watt(PMP i assume) legacy amp on ebay for around $120

lmk what you guys think

Pyramid of car audio is like the Zenith of TVs.. cheap over-rated equipment. I would definitely not recommend any of their products.. and that amp is definitely not 1,800 watts.. maybe 500 at the most. They are talking peak power, which is pretty much how much power it will take/give before it is fryed.. I don't suppose they have the RMS power listed? You'd never be able to buy 1,800 watts for $120.. it would cost you at least 400-500 if not more for an amp that puts out an actual 1,800 watts

you would be lucky to get 300 w out of that amp. a good D class amplifier that puts out 500 RMS at 12 volts is the MTX 6500D, runs about 310 dollars.

and those subs, they may handle 600w, but their frequency response is going to be crap. they probably don't even hit below 80 Hz for crap.

Agreed, Legacy/Pyramind = cheap crap, though I wouldnt go with Sony Xplod eithe. Sony seems to getting wrose after every year as far as car audio is concerend, all flash no function.

I've got two xplod amps, Im happy with them. I realize they are perfect, but they put out decent sound at crankable volumes.

got any better ideas for an amp with ~400+ watts at 4 ohms to power 2 pioneer 10s(or maybe 12's)?

Yeah, take a look at precision power, phoenix gold, or mtx. For a little less costy amps (but still usable on those 2 10"s), check out pioneer, jensen, sony, kenwood.

A good 400W amp will cost you around $150-$250 depending on which brand you buy and how much discount you get. Just remember, in the world of car audio, expect to pay about a buck a watt!

We'll if you want a good 400x2 amp you?re prolly gona end up spending a good sum. I'd look for a amp that outputs however many watts your looking for and is stable at 2ohms in stereo. With a 2ohm stable amp you will be able to run your 2 4ohm subs in parallel, putting a 2ohm load on your amp, basically doubling your output.

Hold up, what I said didn?t make any sense. Instead of a 400x2 amp, you?ll want to look for either a 2 channel amp that bridged will output 400watts or a mono amp that will output 400watts. Run the subs parallel and you will get your 400 watts into each sub.
