audiophiles: *near* best 2.1 multimedia systems for PCs? ~$300

im looking to buy new PC speakers. im only looking at 2.1 systems because i rarely watch movies on my computer. its for music listening, and occasional gaming. im looking to spend around ~$300 but its flexible. not too high tough ($350+). ive been looking at the cambridge soundworks 512, which are $359, but i may be able to get them cheaper if i look around. ive heard recomendations for the swan diva m200s and they look attractive if i can actually find a place to buy them! then theres the Aego2 which someone recommended as well and can be found for $270 in some places.

i know quite a bit on headphones, but nothing about speakers. i have a crappy home theatre in my room and was thinking up picking up that deal on the fluance speaker package. then i realized they probably wont sound that good compared to a 2.1 system for a higher price. (correct me if im wrong, im open to buying that set too).

problem is, no one has really heard many of these. its simple a thing of passing recommendations around, and they become scrambled. so i have no idea from anyone how these actually perform. furthermore, the electronic stores i go to do not carry these. of course, have no doubt these will definately beat up klipsch 2.1s, but is it worth it?

also, some of my friends actually recommended i get a reciver for my PC and hook up book shelf speakers with it. they said this expands your sound potential and upgradability by a large margin. is this true? has anyone done this? sorry for the long post.

Hell no man..the swans own those things.

I say for the Swans or possibly the Cambridge's. THe klipshc are nice, but although thye might be more powerful(?) the Swans, dfrom the review, will give you more accurate sound.

Honestly, from my experience, Klisch Comp speaker crossovers besides the 5.1 are sh!tty.

Rare speakers, but godly 2.1's (emulated surround sound too). probably some of the best speakers ever: S2 Midilands. They're incredible... unfortunately my brother took those back from me when he moved, hehe. I think they're still worth anywhere between $250-300, even though they're old speakers.

If you have the time, you can make 2 good satellites and a sub. Then again, the cost of the amp will balance everything out.

The Swan's are definitely nice, but good luck finding them...I don't know how hard or difficult it'll be, with them being out of production. Other than that, the Klipsch-es are always nice.

Anyone know anything?

Thanks..just for learning purposes only.

so have you guys actually heard the swans? or have any friends that have? im really wondering on the sound of these. i heard the klipsch 2.1s and god do they sound good. but i havent heard any of the other ones, some people told me the klipschs are more for gaming, rather than classical music and such.

see this is the tough thing about these speakers. hard to find people whos actually had experience with many. howard, about making your own satellites, is that expensive? and will it sound good?

btw. i forgot to mention i dont need loud volumes, just maybe moderate volumes at most. i mean, having capable speakers are great, but if the speakers are very clear and accurate, i wouldnt care if its not extra powerful.
