I decided it is time to upgrade my home receiver, and I would like to spend $300-500 on a new one.

It must have:
6.1 or 7.1
2 Component video inputs (for hdtv)
DTS/Dolby/etc

It doesn't have to be the badest guy on the block, but I want something that will power my speakers decent. Anyone have any recommendations on what I should be looking for? Make/Model?

EDIT: Help me hook it up!
Here are the components I have.. Not sure exactly how to hook it up the *best* way.
1) 55" HDTV PIC of hook-ups
Hookups:
3 SVIDEO or A/V Inputs
2 Component 480i/480p
1 DTV Component 480i/480p/1080i

2) DTC-100 HD Sat Receiver (see tv pic for current hookup, currently on TV Input "DTV")

3) Tivo Series 1, only has Svideo or A/V Outputs

4) Xbox (component output used as DVD player as well)

5) Onkyo TXSR601 PIC of back

6) 110 disc CD changer

What I am after is for the best way to hook it up, using the least amount of remotes to get it all done.. What kind of cables should I use, and what should be hooked to what? I am pretty good at hooking a/v stuff up, but this one I would like some help..

thanks!

DENON AVR-1803 is a very good receiver, check CNET as they have some pretty good reviews. If you want to know more email me as I just got done buying my home theater and I spent days researching this stuff.

I would recommend either getting an Onkyo TX-SR601 or a Denon AVR-1803. I personally have the Onkyo TX-SR600 (lasts years model of the 601) and I love it. Any Onkyo or Denon and you will be happy. They arent much to look at but they get the job done with flying colors. Here is a great site too check them out, but their prices are a bit high.

I got the AVR-3803, out of your price range but after much reading and listening I decided on DENON. They are not cheap(or ridiculously expensive)but for a couple hundred bucks more you can get something that is so much better than Sony, KLH, or anything else that Best Buy sells.

That 601 is a bargain

I REPEAT>>>DO NOT GET THE DENON 1803....

It has around 27MHZ of video bandwidth...HDTV WILL SUCK if you route it through it.

The tx-600 has around 50-60Mhz (more than enough) and the 601 probably has more...not to mention 6 x 192/96kHz DACs:cool:

Mine only has two:(

yep...the new onkyo's will not distort HD signal, whereas most receivers will

cool I will get it when they open tomorrow.. Full warranty, don't know about other stuff in box..

the guy said he would bargain.. What should my opening price be?

I figured I would work the free service plan option, and maybe $20-30 off that price..??

for sure get a warranty if its open box. I would say the receiver plus a three year warranty for $300 would be a good offer

Onkyos are good. I own the Denon 3802 and it's godly though. So i recommend that.

Denon's are fantasatic.

My point was not intended to be antagonistic towards Denon's. It's just that in this pricerange, Onkyo delivers more bandwidth for HDTV. If anything, the amps on the 1803 are a little more robust than on the Onkyo....not by too much though.

The 3802 and 3803 are fine machines....

Wow! If you can get it for that price I say go for it! Though I think DENON's are slightly better you can't pass up a deal like that.

i like harman kardon but an AVR 325 will run about $550 from onecall.com if that is acceptable i would definitely go for that and if you have even more $$$ the 525 is $699 which is a steal

i dont think anything under 1K is a better buy than the HK AVR-525

also if you are getting the Onkyo for 601 make sure it has a remote

a replacement (not covered under factory warranty) will cost $80-90 most likely

also opt for a service plan and as soon as you get it i would check EVERY OUTPUT/INPUT if possible and all the modes to make sure everything works correctly
