I recently discovered something that I thought I'd share with the group. Might be common knowledge, so I apologize if I'm not the first to bring it up.

I've been using AudioGalaxy's Satellite for a while now, and noticed that it automatically installs spyware. If you have installed Satellite, check your tasks running (ctrl+alt+dlt), and check for WHagent. I've read it's spyware, but never confirmed. Anyway, you can remove it in your Control Panel in "Add/Remove Programs." The program is called webhancer. Once you remove it, it stays gone, unless you reinstall or upgrade Satellite.

Thanks!

That's precisely why I prefer to use an older version (v. 5.1.9, or something like that...), which didn't have the spyware add-ons.

Webhancer isn't just spyware. It tampers with your tcp/ip connections and causes major instability ie; really bad crashes on certain web pages. If you simply delete it's folder you may have problems connecting to the internet. This same spyware is included with the program GetRight! also.

SPYWARE!

u're one of the 23094820349 people to be personally monitored by an individual somewhere doing something ineffably terrifying with your ip/system info...

tech nerd w/ yellow skin!!

spyware can't hurt your computer any more than any other software could, unless its inherently unstable.
getting info can in no way affect your comp...modifying that info could..

i think they get mostly demographic information and perhaps things like sites u visit, etc that could relate to marketing in some way or other...

other than that, nothing really more than what happens to u every time u visit this site and read a msg from the grinch

"spyware can't hurt your computer any more than any other software could"

-Every spyware I've heard of causes instability. No kidding.... and laugh at the people who are concerned about it... I bet their PC's don't lock up as much or give them as many troubles as the people who don't care.

"UNLESS IT'S INHERENTLY UNSTABLE"....

then uninstall it...like i said, spyware itself is fine unless it's INHERENTLY UNSTABLE

<< Why do you guys use that stuff at all? I just use FTP. >>

I used to use FTP, but it sucks having to upload first to get access. Then, many jerks make you upload, then won't let you download. Now, guys want you to click on porn sites and subscribe before they'll give you leech access. Also, with AudioGalaxy, I can search for songs I like, click 10 at once, and it downloads them with in a few minutes. So much easier than FTP.

I think what they meant was that you can use an ftp browser to do your normal downloading through. Not like the ftp account thing.

funny, a friend of mine called me like 20 minutes ago because his DSL was screwed up. Explorer just gave blank pages and was very slow. I tell him to press ctrl-alt-del, and he tells me a few things are running, including WHAgent. (the spyware that comes with audiogalaxy) I told him to go uninstall it, and it fixed everything.

Audiogalaxy is suck!!!

Uninstall Webhancer. Run Ad-aware to remove any spyware left (from that or other programs). Solved. Audiogalaxy works fine.
