I almost fall into this kind of scam today. Lucky I backed up.

I talked it down to $250 for a pair. Not a bad price I guess.

Years ago when I lived in Portland I was walking out of Fry's Electronics (was actually there looking at speakers too) when two guys pulled up in a white van tried to sell me a pair of DOGG Audio speakers. They looked really nice, and for $75 I was about to buy them to. BUT, one of the speakers had a nasty crack on the wood. No dice, and in the end it looks like I got lucky. haha

If I were one of those guy, I'd give you buy one get one free deal since the sh!tty speaker has nasty craok on the wood.
