great review zap.
can u see if the adaptor is 110v only? or is it 110~220v?

Input
100-240V
50/60Hz
1.2A

Output
17.5V
1.8A

It's not class D or any of its derivatives. Amp is class AB I believe.

That's what I'm led to believe.

Great review zap. You should cross post it as a new thread in the audio subforum.

Maybe I'll do that after this thread dies. Thanks!

Are these sold in pair or single with that price?
Thanks.

Pair.

I have these speakers (purchased them for $199 MSRP though).

For audiophile reviews, you should check out Head Fi (http://www.head-fi.org/search.php?search=audioengine+a2).

Coming from the Klipsch 2.1 ProMedia system, I think these speakers are WAY better in terms of fidelity. On my Klipsch, I hardly ever turned the bass knob past 7'o clock, so I was shopping for GOOD 2.0 speakers. The other option to these are the M-Audio AV40. I had thought about buying bookshelf speakers and having them powered through an amp, but then it's just too cumbersome.

Zap has a point with the volume knob. I do think that it is awkwardly placed. It also takes some force to turn the knob. However it really is not that big of a deal if you're like me and sit no more than 14-16" away from the speakers. I usually just lean over and dial the volume if I have to. I also recommend placing the speakers at head level. I bought the stands ($29 MSRP) from AudioEngine and they make a ton of difference vs not having it at ear level. The stands aim the speakers toward me, and really allows the lows to be heard.

Conclusion: these are by far the *best* sub $200 2.0 Computer speakers in this category. You really can't find anything better in terms of sound quality, precision, and build. If necessary, they're really compact and easy to be transported. Best of all no need to transport a subwoofer. If you're like me and don't care for wall shattering thump, these are definitely a must by. And if you missed out on this deal... there will be more deals on this in the future.

IMO if you have the space you should go with the A5s... I bought them and still felt like there wasn't enough bass for games and certain types of music so I bought the S8 sub as well

....However, if you have roommates or live in an apartment the A5s are definitely enough by themselves
