Audio2.exe, what is it?

I was surfing normally using google, and all of a sudden my computer freezed and it started downloading a program called audio2.exe, or audio2 something. It downloaded it rather slowly so I tried to shut my computer but the program didn't allow my computer to shut down until the download was completed. After that my computer restarted and everything seems seemingly normal. I'm 100 percent certain that I didn't download the file.

So what is this file?

I am aware that all kinds of spying programs exist, but who is insane enough to spy other people? Norton doesn't find it, nor does malwarebytes. How can I get rid of this program.

Look in your downloads folder, if you see this file. delete it. dont run it.

Also look in your installed programs and sort by date, look for anything that was installed that day, uninstall it.

If you do find that something was installed, you may want to run a few antivirus programs like junkware removal tool, and perhaps adwcleaner.

junkware removal tool and adwcleaner can be downloaded from "bleepingcomputer.com" but a search on google should turn them right up, make sure you download them from that site and not another place.

if you find nothing, just be careful for a while and dont enter any bank info or anything like that into the pc till you are sure its ok.

i searched google for that filename and some sites said it was indeed a trojan virus and some said it was a conexant audio driver component for 32bit vista...

if you dont have 32bit vista its probably not something good...

That's what I thought. Should I take my laptop to some computer store if they could remove it?

Also I tried to google it but there is too much information on it and I suspect that if it is in fact a spying program for example, the information is purposely misleading.

You can get better help at Bleepingcomputer. But if you want, try scanning the computer in safe mode with Malwarebytes, Adwcleaner, Junkware Removal Tool and toss in a Bitdefender Live CD. Or you can run Herdprotect which will take a long time and require two rounds of scanning. Note that if you use OpenDNS, you will have to change your DNS settings temporally for Herdprotect to work. If you have a VPN that will work as well.

Thanks for the info.

Now this is getting rather interesting. When I try to download adwcleaner.exe from the bleepingcomputer site, as soon as I click download some other program deletes the adwcleaner.exe file immediately. I have tried this about ten times and this happens every time.

My job mostly consists of removing malware from computers. You are for sure infected. I have seen that behavior before. If you put the PC in safe mode before attempting to download the software it may work. But depending on what kind of malware that is it could be tricky.

Its going to cost money, but at this point you may want a local computer shop.

NOT staples, NOT geek squad. Trust me.

Just a local random computer shop.

Someone with with at least an A+ certification or an MCSE should be able to fix this no problem.

It may be a bit complicated if you arent super familiar with malware and computers.

The procedure for fixing this will most likely be to put the pc in safe mode with networking, then use something called "html help" or just a browser with no addons enabled to download and run the software in the order of:

rkill
junkware removal tool
malwarebytes
adwcleaner

all are available at bleepingcomputer besides malwarebytes which you may already have.

When you are in regular mode it allows the malware to load at the start when the Operating system loads(windows). The only way to avoid this is to start in safe mode w/ networking which means that only windows and the network load. Avoiding the malware, although depending on how advanced the malware is, it may load even in safe mode.

If all this seems over your head, just take it to a shop, dont enter or type in any important info into the pc it may be spying on you or who knows what.

Looks like you are "owned".
Best thing to do is, if you only have 1 partition, then copy all files ASAP to a flash drive or something.
Then, reinstall the OS.

That is the ONLY sure fire fix.

LPCtech said this too and I repeat: At bleepingcomputer download and run rkill first (this comes with several titles to fool malware), give it time (? 5 minutes) until an alert comes up, do not reboot, and run the anti malware of your choice. Repeat as necessary. I try to start with ADWCleaner because it is quick. Use any/ all the suggested programs of LPCtech and John Connor.

Tell us what happened.

I made a thread about this in bleepingcomputer.com forums.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/605462/audio2exe-what-is-it/

Is this security check safe, even when norton says it's not? I not trying to question the reliability of the bleepingcomputer forums, it's just that I don't know a whole lot about computers.
It only got one hit when I uploaded the file to virustotal from a scanner I haven't heard of. It's pretty normal to see a false positive or two on occasion. Based on the results I would have no problem running the program on my machine.
