Audio/Video question w/ HDMI

Hey guys, I just got the new 32" Sharp LED tv to replace my dying monitor and got to thinking: I remember some of the newer ATi cards have an HDMI or 2 and that they could pass sound. I've now got a 46" Sammy and will have that new 32" Sharp connected to my computer. My end goal is to use HDMI with both so that both can play sound out of their own speakers, eliminating the need for me to use my Z5500s for either. I'm not a huge audiophile or anything and the sound from my Sammy's speakers are good enough for me. Is there such a card (preferably a 4890 but willing to consider a 4870) that can do what I want? A lot of the models I looked at recently don't even have 1 HDMI port and I heard DVI->HDMI doesn't pass the sound along...

Oh I should add, I'm not against staying with nVidia or anything. They just don't seem as cost-effective these days. But if there's a decent deal on one of them, I'm all for it as well.

With ATI 4xxx series cards audio through DVI does work. However you have to use the uncluded ATI branded DVI -> HDMI adapter, since it's pinout is different. Most only come with one adapter though, so you'd either have to buy a second or get a card with 1 native HDMI and get the second with the adapter

Ahh... so just to make sure, the native HDMI does work? Do I need to do anything fancy or is it just plug cables in and I'm good to go? Thanks!

If you have another active audio driver installed on your system, you will need to select the ATI HDMI (might show up as Realtek HDMI) solution as your default in the sound control panel.

One more thing: I saw a nice deal on the MSI R4890 Cyclone OC at ZZF but it only has 1 native HDMI port and does NOT seem to come with a DVI->HDMI adaptor. Is there any disadvantage to getting this? Will I encounter any kind of problems or should I just play it safe and get a different card that has the adaptor and the port?

No if the card comes with a native HDMI you are all set. This is the better solution. Also a while back you had to download the ATI HDMI audio drivers from Realtek along with the CCC from ATI. Now the CCC drivers have the ATI HDMI audio drivers built in. Install card... plug HDMI to HDMI cable from video card to TV.... install CCC drivers from ATI... and good to go. Work flawlessly for me.
